CREW Chicago 2013 Industry Leadership Dinner
By Victoria C. Pierce, CBRE Inc. The Chicago Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Executive Women (CREW) hosted the 2013 Industry Leadership Dinner on February 27, 2013 at the Standard Club. Each year CREW Chicago members recognize an innovative and influential leader who has contributed significantly to the growth and prestige of women in the commercial real estate industry. The event includes a reception, dinner and a brief program lauding the honoree. This year, Lauralee Martin (photo below, right), CEO Americas of Jones Lang LaSalle, received the coveted Industry Leadership Award. The event featured a conversation between Ms. Martin and Collette English Dixon (photo below, left), Principal – Transactions at Prudential Real Estate Investors.
These two distinguished women in the industry discussed the fact that, although there are increasing numbers of women in commercial real estate, few hold executive-level positions, and women CEOs remain an anomaly. Ms. Martin remarked that the most important thing she can do to advance the success of women in commercial real estate is to coach, versus mentor; noting that the best coaches she has encountered naturally create a reciprocal relationship with their advisees. Lauralee shared how confidence, a sense of humor and doing something she loves have been important in her career path. She also offered her opinion of the past, present and future status of the commercial real estate industry. CREW Chicago Prospective Member Event

Mr. Mandigo opened the event with an informative and comprehensive overview of Chicago’s hotel market landscape and the way our market fits into the national hotel scene.
